Andy King has praised Calvin Bassey on Instagram following the player’s move to Rangers.

King, who had a loan spell at Rangers from Leicester City during the first half of the 2019-20 campaign, has said that defender Bassey has massive potential.

The 31-year-old Wales international midfielder, who is currently on loan at Huddersfield Town and won the Premier League title with Leicester in 2015-16, has also stated that Bassey – who can operate as a central defender or as a left-back – is a top player.

As announced on Rangers’ official website, the 20-year-old will join Steven Gerrard’s side on a four-year contract.

The Express has claimed that the Scottish Premiership club have had to pay Leicester City £230,000 in cross border compensation fee.

King responded: “Top player, massive potential. Good luck bro @bassey.1.”

Good signing for Rangers?

Bassey does not have first-team experience, and the 20-year-old is unlikely to go straight into the Rangers starting lineup next season.

However, the youngster has potential, and his versatility means that he will provide valuable cover at centre-back and left-back, as the Gers aim to stop their bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic from winning the Scottish Premiership title for the 10th season in a row in 2020-21.
