Conor Coady was left on the bench by Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Bruno Lage on Saturday amid rumours that West Ham United and Everton transfer rumours.
Wolves suffered a 2-1 defeat at Leeds United, with Coady an unused substitute during the game, as West Ham have joined Everton in the race for the 29-year-old, according to talkSPORT.
West Ham have already paid big bucks for a centre-back this summer in Nayef Aguerd and are less in need of more defensive quality, although, they are the ones in Europe.
However, Everton are the ones in need of more depth, with defender Ben Godfrey suffering a serious injury against Chelsea, as Frank Lampard’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat on the opening weekend of the Premier League season yesterday.
That will perhaps accelerate talk of Coady leaving a club he has served for seven years, including earning promotion to the Premier League, being captain of the club and taking them to Europe.
The England international didn’t even come off the bench at Elland Road, with Lage only making one of five substitutes during the game.
COADY SHOULD MAKE EVERTON MOVE
The issue Everton face is that they might not see Godfrey for a pretty long time after he went off on a stretcher against Chelsea after a horror ankle injury.
But Yerry Mina, who had his injury concerns last season, also left the field at Goodison Park, as it’s not raining on Merseyside, but pouring for Lampard.
With an experienced English centre-half in James Tarkowski already through the doors, it would be wise to knock the door down for Coady, especially given that Lage isn’t playing him.
The Wolves boss did once laud the player as ‘one of the best’ during his pre-match press conference back in March, but it seems as though he wants to go with his young guns, Max Kilman and Nathan Collins, going forward.
Coady may well be ex-Liverpool, but that was a long time ago now and players are professionals with many of them crossing the divide to the other side during their careers.
