Back in 2021, Football Scotland spoke to Victor Wanyama about a potential return to Celtic before he retires.

The Kenya international – who made 91 appearances for the Bhoys – admitted that it would be a dream to return to Parkhead, and is desperate to have “one last go” at playing for the Scottish giants.

Wanyama said: “I had a contract at Tottenham and they were very difficult to let me go. The demands were very hard. Celtic was a club that I would love to play for again and again. It’s more than a club. I enjoyed my time there.

“I honestly want to come back and give it one last go because I love the club, the people there, the fans. Just everything there was great.”

Now, there has been an interesting development.

Victor Wanyama free to join Celtic

Well, as seen above, the 31-year-old revealed that he nearly rejoined Celtic while he was still at Tottenham, although the north Londoners made it difficult for him to leave.

Now, however, things could be different, as Wanyama has announced he will be leaving Montréal when his contract expires in December.

As quoted by the official website of Major League Soccer, the Kenyan said: “At the end of the season, I think I will leave. I’ve had great years here, I’ve enjoyed being part of the team. It’s been great. End of the season I will be free to leave.”

The MLS campaign ends in November, and once Wanyama’s contract officially expires on 1st December, Celtic will be free to make contact with him about a return to Parkhead.

So far this season, the Montréal No.2 has scored one goal and provided two assists in 35 appearances.

Celtic must seize Victor Wanyama opportunity

In our view, Ange Postecoglou would be a fool not to at least offer Wanyama a deal until the end of the season.

The midfield colossus still has plenty to offer at the age of 31, and has impressively managed to avoid any injuries for Montréal so far this season, which suggests he is keeping himself fit.

Postecoglou is also set to lose Callum McGregor for an extended amount of time due to a knee injury suffered in the 3-1 defeat to RB Leipzig, which means another midfielder certainly wouldn’t go amiss at Parkhead.

Keep an eye on this situation, as we could soon see Wanyama back playing for the Hoops.
