Arsenal could soon receive a boost in their pursuit of Declan Rice thanks to Matteo Guendouzi – who was sold by the Gunners in 2022.

The Frenchman is a target for West Ham – according to The Athletic.

If that move goes through, then it would put Arsenal in a very strong position to push through a deal for Declan Rice.

What’s the story?

Well – according to the Mirror – talks between Arsenal and West Ham would be a lot smoother if the east Londoners got their hands on Guendouzi.

Ian Abrahams of talkSPORT recently made a confident claim that Rice is “going to Arsenal” this summer, by which point he will only have 12 months remaining on his contract at the London Stadium.

However, it would seem West Ham would like to sign a ready made replacement before sanctioning the England international’s exit.

Guendouzi has blossomed into one of the most talented young midfielders in Europe since joining Marseille in a £9m move back in July 2022 after an initial loan spell.

The 24-year-old has earned recognition from Didier Deschamps with seven caps for France, which speaks volumes when you consider the talent available to the 54-year-old.

Newcastle or Aston Villa could spoil Arsenal’s Rice hopes with Guendouzi move

West Ham are not the only side interested in Guendouzi.

The Athletic believe Newcastle are also keen to sign the Frenchman, while the Birmingham Mail claim he is a top target for Unai Emery at Aston Villa.

If Emery or Howe beat West Ham to Guendouzi, it would send the Irons back to the drawing board in their hunt for a Rice replacement, delaying his expected move to Arsenal.

As you can tell, there is potential for a transfer merry go round to commence this summer in the Premier League, so be sure to keep an eye on the situation.
