Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were linked with Sergio Gomez only last month, but the Spanish left-back is now set to join Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City instead.
Arsenal linked with Sergio Gomez
On July 14, Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter that Arsenal were exploring the possibility of signing Gomez from Anderlecht in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners were on the hunt for a left-back at the time and also had Oleksandr Zinchenko on their radar, as reported by the well-known and well-resected journalist.
As we know, Arsenal eventually signed Zinchenko from Premier League champions Manchester City.
The Ukraine international can play as a left-back or in midfield.
So, in essence, Arsenal felt that Zinchenko would be a better signing than Gomez for them.

Manchester City transfer
It now seems that defending Premier League champions Manchester City are now on the verge of signing the Anderlecht youngster.
The Athletic have reported that City have reached an agreement with Anderlecht for an initial transfer fee of £11 million for the left-back.
The Spaniard will now reportedly fly to England to undergo a medical and then complete his move to the Citizens.
Romano has also reported on Twitter that the deal is pretty much done.
Gomez made 39 appearances in the Belgian league for Anderlecht last season.
The youngster scored six goals and gave 11 assists in those matches.
