Arsenal annoyed a number of their fans when they sold Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa last month. The Argentine was one of Mikel Arteta’s best players in the back-end of last season, but he had no place at the Emirates.
The Gunners boss chose Bernd Leno as his number one and Martinez had no option but to look elsewhere. Arsenal had to bring in a replacement, and Dijon’s Runar Alex Runarsson was the chosen one.
The Iceland international joined the Gunners for just over £1 million, (Goal) but he is yet to play a game in an Arsenal shirt. Arteta has decided to go with Leno in all competitions, and the German has been pretty solid.
However, mistakes in back to back games against Manchester City and Rapid Wien has raised question marks. Those errors will by no means cost Leno his number one role, but he might just need a break.
Arsenal host Irish side Dundalk in the Europa League on Thursday. That is the perfect game for Arteta to rest Leno and hand Runarsson his debut for the Gunners – over a month after they signed him from French side Dijon.

Arsenal’s official Twitter account tweeted a picture of the Iceland star in training ahead of the game at the Emirates. Fans have urged Arteta to give him a chance, but it is unclear if the Gunners boss will consider him.
Here’s how a few Arsenal fans reacted to the tweet
