If Folarin Balogun is leaving Arsenal, he’s going out in style.
The 19-year-old marksman is coming to the end of his contract in North London and although Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has repeatedly claimed he is confident of Balogun staying, the player himself seems to have other ideas.
At this moment in time, Arsenal will be losing a big, big talent for nothing in a couple of months.
But Balogun is regularly giving Arteta and the club’s hierarchy something to think about with some stunning form at Under-23 level.
He was at it again on Sunday, scoring twice as Steve Bould’s side lost 3-2 to Brentford B.
Here’s how some Arsenal fans reacted to his brace on Twitter:
It’d be a big shame if Balogun left Arsenal for nothing, particularly because it’s still avoidable.
All he wants is a chance to impress in the Premier League and considering Arteta’s side are 10th in the table and seven points adrift of a top-six finish, they don’t really have much to play for domestically.
The further they go in the Europa League, the more tempted Arteta will be to keep his heavy hitters in reserve.
And it might not be such a bad thing if the Spaniard did give Balogun the Premier League debut that he’s been craving for a while.
