West Ham United might have a clearer path to sign the Manchester City ace, following reports suggesting Leicester City have switched focus to other targets.

During what has been a summer of real frustration thus far for both Slaven Bilic and Hammers fans, they seem to have received somewhat of a boost in the race to sign one of their key summer targets, with the Mirror reporting that Leicester City have switched their attention from Citizens hitman Kelechi Iheanacho to Watford’s Troy Deeney.

SkyBET listed the Foxes as short as 2/5 to sign the 20-year-old striker, but that now seems unlikely, with Craig Shakespeare lining up a £20 million bid for the Hornets’ captain Deeney, according to the Mirror.

If that does turn out to be the case, it should leave the path clear for West Ham to make a move for the Nigerian.

The news will be music to Hammers fans’ ears, following a number of failed swoops for Bilic’s primary transfer targets.

Iheanacho would be an excellent signing for the east Londoners, and the club’s board should be doing everything within their power to make it happen, although West Ham fans will certainly not be confident of that happening.

The Citizens value the 20-year-old at around £20 million, according to the Express, and that would represent fantastic value in today’s inflated transfer market.
