Nottingham Forest have been one of the busiest teams in Europe throughout this summer transfer window, and while the Tricky Trees have been criticised for being too busy in some circles, a few of their new signings are shining.
Indeed, the East Midlands outfit have picked up four points from their first three games this term, and it’s fair to say that their new arrivals are having an impact.
Lewis O’Brien is an absolute dynamo in the midfield, Harry Toffolo has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water, but two of the most impressive new additions have been Neco Williams and Taiwo Awoniyi
Williams and Awoniyi were two stars from Forest’s first win against West Ham last weekend, and they were shining again against Everton on Saturday.
Williams has filled Djed Spence’s boots at the City Ground brilliantly. He looks every bit as creative as the Tottenham man did last season, while Awoniyi is a real handful up front.
These two have immediately formed an understanding with one another, as the Welshman has picked out the Nigerian with a number of searching through balls and crosses already this season, and that sight should really have been something we saw more often at Liverpool.
Awoniyi and Williams were, of course, on the Reds’ books together at one point, but the Merseyside club let both players go as they couldn’t find a slot for them in their team.
However, based on their performances and link-up so far for Forest, they could have been a very useful partnership for Liverpool.
Now, we’re not going to argue that they could’ve been starters ahead of the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino – they’re simply not at that level, but with the Reds looking to compete on four fronts again this term, these types of rotation options are exactly what they need to be successful.
Awoniyi and Williams could have been excellent together for Liverpool’s so-called ‘B’ team, but now, they’re showing the Reds what they’re missing as they shine for Forest.
