Tottenham target Antonio Rudiger’s future is a ‘concern’ admits Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, as he told his pre-match press conference.

The German stated that Rudiger has been ‘outstanding’ for Chelsea and has also performed at a ‘high level’.

Those in Spurs colours will get a feel of that in a few hours time when they lock horns with their London rivals at Stamford Bridge.

Whilst Liverpool’s EFL Cup first-leg semi-final tie against Arsenal has been postponed because of COVID, Chelsea and Tottenham’s showdown will still go ahead.

At this moment in time, Rudiger is giving his all for Chelsea, despite interest from elsewhere and his contract coming to an end in the summer.

Tuchel shared that there has been ‘communication’ with the player regarding his future, but nothing has move forward yet.

“I can’t predict the future,” said Tuchel. “I don’t know if his representatives talk to other clubs. If you know so or assume so, then fair enough.

“It is possible now (pre-contract agreement with another club) because it is January. And he has not signed yet. But, as I understand it, we are in communication with him. The club is in communication with him.

“I know or I assume he is very aware of what I demand from him and how I appreciate working with him. The level at which he is playing is still super high and outstanding.

“There are no doubts that the situation is a concern for that. The point is very clear. My opinion is very clear. The club is trying its very best.”

With Antonio Conte in charge of Spurs, their fans will feel they can use the Italian’s pull to try and lure players that wouldn’t normally join them.

Eurosport claimed in December that Tottenham are keen on signing the Germany international and they are ‘putting forward a strong proposal’ to lure his talents from one side of London to the other.

Tottenham and Chelsea don’t normally do business and it would be some surprise if he ended up in their colours.

Especially given that Rudiger has a Champions League medal around his neck and the hard-hitting defender will feel he can do much better than the north London club.
