The Everton winger has recently returned from a lengthy injury layoff.

Everton Manager Sam Alladyce shouts from the touchline during the Premier League match between Everton and West Bromwich Albion at Goodison Park on January 20, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

Everton were one of the busiest clubs in the January transfer window, bringing in three players and letting seven go.

Four of those players – Sandro Ramirez, Ademola Lookman, Muhamed Besic and Kevin Mirallas – left on loan. The aforementioned players had all fallen down the pecking order at Everton and went in search of regular football.

Another player who potentially may have benefited from a loan move was Yannick Bolasie. The winger has had a difficult time at Goodison Park. After a decent start to his Everton career, he injured his knee ligaments in December 2016 which kept him out for 12 months.

He made his return on Boxing Day and still has not quite found his feet. Bolasie needs regular football to get back up to speed, however Everton’s poor form has seen them slip five points adrift of seventh placed Burnley and just seven clear of danger.

They need results quickly to, initially, quash their relegation fears once and for all before they can think about challenging for Europe. Gylfi Sigurdsson, Wayne Rooney and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were all left out of Everton’s 5-1 humiliation at Arsenal last weekend so Sam Allardyce does have other attacking options.

A loan move to a team where Bolasie would be guaranteed to play every week would have allowed him to build up his fitness levels and his sharpness.

He could have gone and played in a system which played to his strengths whereas Everton are still working out how to accommodate the likes of Sigurdsson and Rooney as well as the DR Congo international.

A Bolasie who is confident and fully fit is a danger to any Premier League defence and, whether that is at Everton or elsewhere, he needs to be playing week in, week out to get back to those levels.
