Javier Hernandez has been leading the line for West Ham United in recent games and has found himself back among the goals.
Hammers manager David Moyes has been suffering a bit of an injury crisis, which has handed the Mexican forward an opportunity. The London Evening Standard report that Hernandez wanted to leave the London Stadium during the transfer window to boost his World Cup hopes but he remains a West Ham player who says he is 100 per cent committed.
The 29-year-old old scored the equalising goal in the Hammers’ 3-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion. It was his second goal in four matches having previously fallen out of favour.
He looks a lot more confident and, with a return to the side, there is no reason why he cannot go on a scoring run. The former Manchester United marksman will feel he has a point to prove to both Moyes and his international manager.
He will be desperate for a place in Mexico’s world cup squad so will need to continue scoring goals to assure himself of a place. Diafra Sakho and Andre Ayew have gone which leaves new signing Jordan Hugill and the injured pair of Marko Arnautovic and Andy Carroll as Moyes’ forward options.
‘Chicharito’ has six goals to his name this season in 20 league appearances. It is quite a modest record but he has often had to make do with appearances from the bench for West Ham.
His recent goals against Bournemouth and Brighton have shown that he has still got the quality and predatory instincts to score in the top flight so, with renewed confidence and more time on the pitch, that tally will surely be rising in the coming weeks.
