Davy Klaassen’s Everton move has been nothing short of disastrous so far, especially for an attacking midfielder who scored 18 times last season.
Davinson Sanchez of Tottenham Hotspur and Davy Klaassen of Everton battle for possession during the Premier League match between Everton and Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park on September…
Davy Klaassen’s move to Everton simply hasn’t worked out. The Dutchman joined the Toffees with after previous Everton boss Ronald Koeman splashed out £23.6m (BBC News) to bring the creative midfielder from Ajax.
Klaassen has failed to make an impact at Goodison Park though. He’s made just four Premier League appearances all season, and hasn’t featured since Everton’s Europa League dead rubber against Apollon Limassol at the start of December.
The 24-year-old has partly been a victim of Everton’s summer transfer business – as the club also signed Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson, who each play in the same number10 role. Klaassen has therefore been played out of position.
The Dutchman will feel he has a point to prove, and will not want to sit on the bench for the rest of the season.
Here are three Premier League clubs who should take a look at him and consider signing him this window:
West Bromwich Albion
Alan Pardew will be hoping to do plenty of business in this window to help West Brom climb out of the relegation zone. Pardew is trying to put his own identity on the squad, as he aims to get them scoring more goals.
West Brom boss Alan Pardew will be in the market for attack minded players this window.
They’ve netted just 16 times this term (the second fewest in the league) and need to change that quickly. Albion lack a creative spark in midfield and Tony Pulis often played with three holding/deep lying midfielders. Klaassen is more forward thinking and has an eye for goal. He’d also be able to play in the advance central role which has eluded him at Everton.
Watford
The wheels have began to come off for Watford and they are in danger of facing a relegation battle. Manager Marco Silva needs to add more energy and a bit of freshness to the squad.
Watford don’t have a natural number 10, as Abdoulaye Doucoure and Etienne Capoue have been playing behind Andre Gray. Klaassen would be the perfect man to fit in that position. Watford also play a fast-paced attacking football – which Klaassen was used to at his previous club Ajax.
Southampton
Only five clubs have scored fewer goals than Southampton while they have the joint lowest total of victories in the Premier League this campaign.
Sofiane Boufal (left) has only scored two goals for Southampton in an inconsistent season for the winger.
Southampton’s attacking players (Charlie Austin aside – when given the chance) haven’t delivered this season. Creative players such as Dusan Tadic, Sofiane Boufal and Nathan Redmond have struggled for consistency. A move for the Netherlands international, who scored 18 times last season, could help provide more goals for the Saints strikers and also add competition for their attacking midfielders.
