Hull City: Could Adkins axe Norwegian pair to free up funds?

Nigel Adkins has replaced Leonid Slutsky at Hull City to try and pull the club further away from relegation.

The Tigers are 20th in the Championship and need to halt their slide towards the bottom three. The January transfer window is just around the corner, but Adkins revealed in the Hull Daily Mail he is unsure if he’ll get the necessary funds to improve the squad.

The former Southampton boss may need to sell before he can buy – and Norwegian duo Markus Henriksen and Adama Diomande could be sacrificed to free up some funds.

Midfielder Henriksen has often been criticised by Hull fans this season. He’s played 16 times in the league and has largely been ineffective.

The Tigers have had plenty of injury problems in midfield with the likes of Evandro and Ryan Mason missing the majority of the season, while Jon Toral has also had his problems. By January, they all could be fit and the 25-year-old may fall down the pecking order and possibly head out the door so Adkins can re-invest in beefing up the squad elsewhere.

Diomande has had a tough time in East Yorkshire lately. He’s not been a regular in the starting line up, but when he has been introduced he’s often fluffed his lines. Against Ipswich in November he had a wonderful opportunity from four yards out after David Meyler put the ball on a plate for him – but he headed wide.

That’s often been the story for the 27-year-old who hasn’t really made an impact at the KCOM since his arrival in 2015. He’s scored just eight goals in 55 appearances and Adkins may cut Hull’s losses on him too.
