Sunderland’s situation at the bottom of the Championship has become desperate.

Sunderland are rock bottom of the Championship and are on a terrible run of form.
The Black Cats are without a win in six and are four points adrift of safety, while Chris Coleman has had a lot to contend with since he was appointed.
The squad is far too thin, with Coleman’s two best strikers Lewis Grabban and James Vaughan both leaving the club in January, as well as various players picking up injury after injury.
With that in mind, here are three free agents who could potentially bolster Sunderland’s squad for the remaining few months of the season.
Marouane Chamakh
Marouane Chamakh has been without a club since leaving Cardiff just over a year ago. Sunderland could do with more numbers and an experienced head up front. They are currently relying on teenagers Joel Asoro and Josh Maja, while on-loan striker Ashley Fletcher is only 22.

The 34-year-old scored 14 goals in 67 games for Arsenal between 2010 and 2013. He is not the most prolific but can help take the pressure off the youngsters with his experience.
Phillip Wollscheid
Sunderland are leaking goals at the minute, having shipped 14 in their last six matches. An extra body and experienced head at the back could be helpful to Coleman.

Phillip Wollscheid is a free agent after he left Metz in January and bringing the 28-year-old would allow the former Wales boss to give 36-year-old veteran John O’Shea a bit of a rest, as the Republic of Ireland international has had to play a lot of minutes as of late, which cannot be good for his ageing legs.
Victor Anichebe
Victor Anichebe actually did OK at Sunderland last season, but a lengthy spell on the sidelines hindered his progress and he finished the season with just three goals.

The Nigerian is still only 29 and is a free agent following his departure from Beijing Enterprises. Anichebe is someone who knows the club well and could do well in the Championship given his physical attributes.
