Three players from the Swiss Super League Leeds should target in January

Leeds United midfielder Ezgjan Alioski has become a key player for the Whites under Thomas Christiansen. The Macedonian international arrived as an unknown quantity, but has made a great start to life in West Yorkshire having been involved in nine Championship goals this season.

He was signed for £3.2m from Swiss side FC Lugano. The Swiss market has been kind to Leeds so here are three other players from the Swiss Super League who Leeds should target in January.

Kevin Mbabu

Central defender Kevin Mbabu is having a fine season at Young Boys who are currently top of the Swiss Super League, and the 22-year-old is starting to fulfil his potential in his homeland.

He’s strong and good in the air and he can certainly continue his development in a vibrant Leeds team. He also has three Premier League appearances to his name which came at Newcastle United during the 2015-16, and he can provide useful cover to Liam Cooper, Matthew Pennington or Pontus Jansson should they pick up injuries.

Simone Rapp

Leeds have had a number of problems up front this season. Loan signing Pierre Michel Lassoga hasn’t played since November 4th having been out with injury and illness, and Caleb Ekuban is set to be sidelined for six weeks with an injury he picked up at QPR a fortnight ago.

That leaves Kemar Roofe and Pawel Cibicki as their only other centre forwards, so Leeds may be in the market for a striker. Simone Rapp is joint top scorer in Switzerland with nine goals for FC Thun this season. The 25-year-old managed the same goal tally in the whole of last season. His goal tallies have improved each season, though, and has become a bit of a poacher. Rapp scored a hat-trick against Lausane back in October.

Raoul Petretta

Leeds have also had issues at left-back this term. Gaetano Berardi’s form has been concerning, while Cameron Borthwick Jackson has been out of the picture and doesn’t seem to be trusted by Christiansen. Vurnon Anita can fill in there, however, Leeds lack a natural left-back.

20-year-old Raoul Petratta has had a good breakthrough year at Swiss Champions FC Basel. The Italy under 21 international been particularly impressive in the UEFA Champions League, playing five group games as he helped Basel reach the last 16 so has the credentials to be a good long term option for Leeds.
