Has Moussa Dembele done enough to warrant a big move this season?

Celtic’s Moussa Dembele’s future has been the main topic of conversation for Brendan Rodgers.

Moussa Dembele has been the major talking point for Celtic in January.

The French striker has been linked with a move away from Celtic Park, but manager Brendan Rodgers insists that the player is not for sale despite receiving a bid for the player, as the BBC reported.

Dembele is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs. The Scotsman report that Stoke City, Everton, Crystal Palace and Serie A side Roma have all shown an interest while the Scottish Sun claim the Hoops rejected a £12million bid from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Dembele was sensational for Celtic last season. He netted 32 goals in all competitions, five of them in the UEFA Champions League so he has proved he can be the man for the big occasion, which attracted the attention of Europe’s elite clubs last summer.

The 21-year-old has not been as good this term. He has scored just eight goals and there have been questions raised about his performances. Dembele is currently on a run of six games without a goal, his longest scoreless sequence of the season. Amidst rumours about his future, Rodgers has left him out of the team for recent matches against Partick Thistle and Brechin City.

Both Leigh Griffiths and Scott Sinclair have scored more goals for Celtic than Dembele this campaign, and it must be said he has been a shadow of the player he was last season.

There is no doubting the Celtic man’s ability and it must not be forgotten that he is only 21 and every young player has dips in form. It is clear he has been affected by transfer speculation and his head may have been turned in the summer. However players such as Philippe Coutinho were able to push it to the back of their minds and perform well.

Based on this season alone, Dembele has not merited a move to a big Premier League club but, based on his ability and potential, it is understandable why he is so highly sought after but he must show signs of improvement.
