Everton’s youngsters ensured the club ended their miserable Europa League campaign on a high with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Apollon Limassol in Cyprus.

A total of seven academy graduates (six of them making their Everton debut’s) all featured in the victory sealed with a brace from Ademola Lookman and a Nikola Vlasic strike.

All of the youngsters who featured have worked under David Unsworth, who was Everton Caretaker manager prior to Sam Allardyce’s appointment.

Other academy graduates Jonjoe Kenny, Tom Davies and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who joined Everton’s academy from Sheffield United, were not involved in Cyprus as they’re being saved for the Merseyside Derby on Sunday.

The trio have all progressed through Unsworth’s under 23s side and are not only regular’s in the first team – but they’re all making an impact.

Jonjoe Kenny is now a regular in Everton’s first team having come through the academy.

During troubled times at the club, Kenny and Calvert-Lewin have been the shining lights and have given hope to Everton supporters and that’s testament to Unsworth – who’s coached them all the way through and also shown faith in them during his interim reign.

It’s no coincidence that Unsworth has now had two stints in Caretaker charge, he also took the reigns after Roberto Martinez’s departure in 2016. Both times he’s instantly returned to his role with the youngsters. He won the under 23 Premier League Two last season. Also, since Unsworth arrived in 2014, nearly 20 players who’ve represented his young team have gone on to make their first team debut for Everton – so he’s a vital part of the future for the club he loves.
