Lambert has been known to rely on players he trusts will work hard and produce for him, and someone who has done that for him in the past is Andreas Weimann.
The pair were first together at Villa Park where Weimann netted 22 goals under Lambert while Villa were in the Premier League. They were re-united last season at Molineux, where the Austrian scored three times during a loan spell from Derby County.
Weimann has netted six times in 62 appearances for the Rams; however he has only started 30 times at Pride Park, which may angle him towards a move as he is competing with the likes of Matej Vydra, David Nugent, Darren Bent and Sam Winnall for a starting berth.
Wednesday are having problems scoring goals. They do have plenty of striking options but only Gary Hooper and Jordan Rhodes have respectable goals tallies this term (11 and six respectively).
Owls fans would like to see Winnall return from his loan spell from Derby, but there is no recall clause in that deal so Lambert could well opt for his trusted Austrian from Pride Park.
