Following up positive results has been the problem for Sunderland during Coleman’s reign, and that is something that needs to be addressed if they are to have any hope of survival. Although having said that, Coleman has been able to halt losing runs quickly as he has not lost more than two consecutive matches during his reign.
The result at Ashton Gate will psychologically do more than some of the victories. Sunderland came from behind, scored three times and could have won the game. It is the type of result that wins the fans over, so the Stadium of Light will be in a positive mood ahead of Brentford’s weekend visit.
If Sunderland do stay up, there is no doubt their latest result will be looked back on as a catalyst.
