The latest reports in Spain suggest that Barcelona will be without defender Gerard Pique for at least a month after his injury last night.
Barcelona have been dealt a significant injury blow with the news that Gerard Pique is likely to be sidelined for a month.
Last night’s all Spanish Champions League quarter-final encounter ended in a 1-1 draw between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona – a result which both sides responded to positively.
But Barcelona were left worrying about the extent of an injury to Pique, which he suffered after falling heavily while competing for an aerial ball with Diego Costa in the 12th minute.
This means that the 27-year-old will miss Barcelona’s crucial second leg against Atletico and also the Copa Del Rey battle against Real Madrid.
Barcelona are already without Pique’s fellow defender Carles Puyol and the loss of Pique will put further strain on Gerardo Martino’s defence.
The next game for Barcelona is a welcoming home fixture with rock-bottom Real Betis, so Pique’s absence may not be too keenly felt.
