Aston Villa are reportedly keen on Leicester City’s Eduardo Macia.

Steve Bruce may be clinging onto his job as Aston Villa manager, but the club’s new owners are ringing the changes elsewhere at Villa Park.

Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris have arrived as the club’s new owners, and decided to spark an overhaul of the club’s scouting and recruitment department last week.

European scout Ian Atkins was given his marching orders, alongside five others, including Tommy Mooney, who scouted Villa’s loaned-out talent and managed their development away from Villa Park.

Villa now want a technical director to oversee the recruitment side of things, and The Sun on Sunday (23/09; page 61) reports that Leicester City’s head of senior player recruitment Eduardo Macia is the top, ambitious target.

Villa’s new chief executive Christian Purslow worked with Macia at Liverpool, and whilst The Express and Star believe a move for the Spaniard would be unlikely given that he has a Premier League job right now, it would be a huge coup for Purslow to pull off a deal.

It was only in August that ESPN reported that AC Milan and West Ham United wanted to land Macia, summing up just what a stunning move it would be for Villa to lure Macia to the Midlands.

Macia, who has also worked with Real Betis and Fiorentina in the past, has been credited with playing a part in deals for the likes of Fernando Torres and Raheem Sterling at Liverpool, as well as luring Rafael van der Vaart to Real Betis.

Another new face making big decisions above Bruce may not be great news for the Villa boss and his future at the club, but if Villa can land Macia – and potentially land top signings like those mentioned above – then it would be a major coup.
