The midfielder moved to Napoli this summer, despite constant links with the Reds.

Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski has told Sportowefakty that he could not have made a better choice in choosing the Serie A side over Liverpool.

The midfielder was linked with a move to Anfield for much of the summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp built his squad.

A move seemed extremely likely, with constant reports claiming that a deal was close to being completed.

However, that did not prove to be the case and he instead ended up staying in Italy and joining Napoli instead.

It proved to be a frustrating end to a long saga for the Reds but it appears the player is not disappointed, instead insisting that he couldn’t have made a better choice.

“With Liverpool, there were advanced talks but it didn’t happen,” he told Sportowefakty.

“But I’m happy to be at Napoli. They’re one of the best teams for a 22-year-old to join. Looking at their style of play and my qualities, I couldn’t have made a better choice.”

It now remains to be seen if missing out on Zielinski is something that Liverpool end up regretting.

It was hard to see where he would fit in at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp already boasting numerous options in the attacking midfield position that he operates in.

However, if he goes on to become a star with Napoli, it may be one transfer that the Reds end up regretting that they did not get over the line.
