Bruno Guimaraes is clearly opening up all kinds of exciting new possibilities for Newcastle United.

Luring the sought-after £30 million midfielder to Tyneside could make life at Newcastle a lot more appealing for other targets of Saudi Public Investment Fund.

Because let’s face it, all it takes is one high-profile signing to get the ball rolling.

The Magpies will be linked to many different players between now and the end of the summer transfer window.

And if one rumour is true, Newcastle could make an even bigger signing than Guimaraes.

Bigger than Guimaraes

According to Calciomercato, the St James’s Park outfit are firmly in the hunt to sign Lille hitman Jonathan David.

And if it materialises, it could be more significant than the Guimarares coup.

Brilliant as he is, Guimaraes wasn’t being chased by Europe’s elite clubs, but David has been linked to the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Liverpool down the years.

Even if Newcastle edge out one of those clubs to sign the Canadian striker, it’s a massive and very significant bit of business.

David would also be a bigger signing because Guimaraes, being a defensive midfielder, is limited when it comes to directly winning matches.

He’ll be a vital cog in the Newcastle machine, but he won’t be grabbing headlines every single week.

However, the 22-year-old, who has the same amount of Ligue 1 goals as Kylian Mbappe this season [12] [Transfermarkt], could very well that fire the Magpies to a new level in the Premier League.

And for that reason, his potential arrival could possibly dwarf Guimaraes in terms of importance.
