The Arsenal fan wants Wenger to spend on Chelsea’s out of form £50 million striker.
Outspoken Gooner and former tabloid editor Piers Morgan is known for his controversial views and courts controversy wherever he goes.
On Twitter in the wake of Manchester United’s 8-2 win over Arsenal he led the ‘Wenger out’ calls and decried signing Mikel Arteta as not good enough.
Now Arsenal are on a winning streak he has reverted to type, cocky, brash and a hypocritical ‘Wenger can do no wrong’ attitude.
On Sunday on America’s Fox network he called on Arsenal to rescue Fernando Torres from his Chelsea nightmare; a move as unlikely as it would be unpopular.
Morgan is of course irrelevant in all of this, but he offers up a talking point.
Torres has been awful since arriving at Chelsea, there is no escaping that fact.
A statistic which shows it neatly is that he has scored more Premier League goals in this calendar year for Liverpool than for Chelsea, despite being at Anfield for not even one full month of it.
But would Arsenal sign him?
The quick answer to that is no. Torres is overpriced and the prudent Wenger would never sanction such a bid for a player whose best days could be behind him.
Would Chelsea let him go? Again, no. Not to a rival certainly.
This leaves one option, a loan. Again no, highly unlikely.
Chelsea may have loaned Arsenal Yossi Benayoun, but the Israeli’s low impact at the Emirates shows why they were happy to sanction such a deal.
A loan is a viable option for Torres and Chelsea so he can rediscover his form, but Arsenal are not the right club.
Arsenal of course need cover for van Persie, but they already have one out of form striker in Chamakh, and recalling Bendtner at the end of the season would surely be a more prudent option that a large outlay on Torres, even if he were available.
Unless Arsenal fans feel differently?
Are there any Gooners want to see the club actively pursue Torres?
Could a high-profile courtship persuade Chelsea into a sale or loan? After all him leaving Anfield seemed unlikely 12 months ago.
Or is the idea Piers Morgan’s worst since agreeing to the fake photos scandal that got him fired from the Mirror?
