Should Vincent Janssen leave Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window?
Tottenham Hotspur are enjoying a great season and are very much in the race for the Premier League title, but Vincent Janssen is not having the best of times.
The Netherlands international striker, who joined from AZ in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £18.5 million, is struggling to make an impact at Spurs.
The 22-year-old has scored two goals and created 15 chances in 24 Premier League appearances for Tottenham so far this season.
With Harry Kane back to full fitness and banging in the goals left, right and centre, it is going to be hard for Janssen to play for Tottenham on a regular basis.
Former Netherlands international striker Pierre van Hooijdonk believes that his compatriot should leave Tottenham in the summer transfer window.
“It’s very difficult for him, because he wants it too much and then things go against you,” said Hooijdonk about Janssen to The Sunday Mirror (print edition, page 69, April 16, 2017).
“Harry Kane is undoubtedly the No.1 striker. So I would say it would be better to move on to a club where he is going to get regular football. Also for the Dutch national team, if he plays elsewhere he is gong to become a better striker.”
Janssen is a talented and promising young striker, and he does have a bright future ahead of him.
The problem is that the Dutchman has not shown much to merit another season at Tottenham, who also need to have a plan if Kane suffers a long-term injury.
