Could new Leeds United signing Pierre-Michel Lasogga be an able successor to Chris Wood at Elland Road?
Chris Wood was one of the best players in the Championship last season and scored as many as 27 goals in the league for Leeds United.
The New Zealand international striker left for Burnley in the Premier League in the summer transfer window, leaving a large hole in the Leeds squad.
The West Yorkshire outfit signed Pierre-Michel Lasogga on transfer deadline day as a possible replacement for Wood.
The former Germany Under-21 international has joined Leeds on a season-long loan deal from German club Hamburg.
As stated on Leeds’s official website, Lasogga has scored 30 times in 107 games for Hamburg since the summer of 2014 when he joined them on a permanent contract following a loan spell from Hertha Berlin.
The Championship is a very tough and rigorous domestic football league, and it is not easy for strikers to succeed in the division.
Lasogga, though, seems to be confident of being a success at Elland Road and of scoring goals.
“I am a typical number 9 and my game is in the box,” Lasogga told LUTV. “I want to help the team with scoring goals, give assists and fight for the whole club and for the team, and yes, I am a real number 9.”
When asked if he can fill Wood’s boots at Leeds, Lasogga told Sky Sports News on Thursday afternoon (3:43pm, August 31, 2017): “Of course, I want to give my best for this club so I will see what happens in the season, but for sure I want to score goals, I want to help the team with my work on the pitch. I am happy now.”
