Everton are set to watch Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with doubts persisiting about his immediate future in the Bundesliga.

Sam Allardyce, Manager of Everton arrives at the stadium prior to the Premier League match between Everton and Huddersfield Town at Goodison Park on December 2, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Sam Allardyce hasn’t brought an end to his self-imposed retirement for any old middling, run-of-the-mill job. The veteran gaffer knows that taking over at Everton is a real opportunity.

This is a team with genuine potential and quality, backed by an owner who was willing to spend £140 million and over in the summer. Allardyce, then, should see Everton as a club with almost unlimited potential.

And with his first transfer window in charge of The Toffees just a month away, he will be hoping that majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri puts his money where his mouth is again with a new centre-forward clearly the top priority on Allardyce’s check list.

Farhad Moshiri, Everton owner is seen prior to the Premier League match between Everton and Watford at Goodison Park on November 5, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Sam wants a striker

And bringing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Goodison Park would be pretty much the perfect welcoming present. Bild reports that the Gabonese striker may be looking to leave Dortmund in January, after falling foul of the club officials again, having been suspended in November for ‘disciplinary issues’.

The report claims that Everton were going to watch Aubameyang in action for Dortmund in Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid. And they won’t have been disappointed, the striker scoring twice at the Bernabau despite Dortmund going down to a thrilling 3-2 defeat.

You won’t need reminding that, for the most part, Everton have struggled for goals since Romelu Lukaku’s departure. Even Wayne Rooney’s stunning hat-trick against West Ham last week came from a midfield role.

Aubameyang, however, is one of Europe’s most feared forwards. He’s fast, skilful and remarkably clinical, scoring 104 goals in the last three seasons and notching 19 in 20 so far this.

It goes without saying that Aubameyang would smash Everton’s transfer record again – but he could prove to be more than worth it. And he’d make Allardyce’s job a whole lot easier.
