Shay Given has said on Sky Sports News (10:48pm, January 31, 2022) that he cannot believe that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave for Barcelona on a free transfer.

As reported by BBC Sport, Aubameyang has left Arsenal and has moved to La Liga giants Barcelona on a free transfer.

The report has claimed that the move will be announced on Tuesday.

Arsenal have essentially just let the 32-year-old Gabon international striker go.

Former Newcastle United and Manchester City goalkeeper Given cannot believe that Arsenal are not getting any transfer fee for a player they paid £56 million for in January 2018 (BBC Sport).

Given said: “We talked about the fee. It was £56 that they paid for him, Aubameyang, and they let him go on a free. In any business, in any other world, it’s madness.”

Are Arsenal making a mistake with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang?

In our view, Arsenal have made a mistake with Aubameyang.

Okay, so the striker was not playing in recent weeks, and Arsenal were doing well without hm.

The Gunners are also going to save £25 million on wages now that Aubameyang has gone.

However, Arsenal did not sign a replacement for Aubameyang.

This means that Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are the two senior strikers at Arsenal at the moment.

Mikel Arteta’s side are aiming to finish in the Premier League top four this season, and, in our opinion, either they should have kept Aubameyang or signed a replacement in the January transfer window.
