Pierluigi Gollini has suggested that Aston Villa’s disappointing start to the season is now proving beneficial as they look to bounce back, the Birmingham Mail reports.
The Villans’ hopes of returning to the top flight at the first attempt were already beginning to look bleak as they won just one of their opening 11 games in the Championship.

However, Steve Bruce’s appointment as Roberto Di Matteo’s successor has signalled an upturn in form that has seen them take seven points out of a possible nine, including wins over Reading and Fulham.
And Gollini has hinted that the struggles they endured during the early stages of the campaign can now be reflected upon as a positive experience.

“I had new team-mates and for the whole team we had a moment where we had to know each other and get through losing games and making mistakes,” he said, as reported by the Mail.
“That is where the tough moments are.
“We stuck together in those moments and it’s something which is helping us now.”
There has perhaps been no player that has enjoyed such an upturn in form as Gollini has recently. The 21-year-old’s early performances were blighted by costly mistakes.
However, his more recent displays have been much more assured – he was perhaps the side’s man of the match against the Royals – and have looked a lot more like that of a goalkeeper that could be a part of a promotion-winning team.
