Harvey White earned his Premier League debut for Tottenham on Wednesday night as Spurs ran riot at Selhurst Park in the second half, winning 4-0 away from home – and many of his teammates have praised the midfielder on Instagram.
White, 21, came off the bench at Palace to play the last few minutes – only his third senior appearance for Spurs. His first, in the Premier League. It comes after playing 64 times for the club’s second string, having a hand in 32 goals.
The youngster has been on the bench twice in the League in 22-23. With Rodrigo Bentancur injured and Yves Bissouma banned, he and Pape Matar Sarr were hopeful of getting on. Oliver Skipp started with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in midfield.
He got just that. After Harry Kane had nabbed a brace, and both Matt Doherty and Son Heung-min found the back of the net, White was given the last few minutes. His first-ever, in the Premier League. He took to Instagram afterwards.
Tottenham teammates praise White after Premier League debut at Palace
The consensus among Tottenham fans is that it should really have come a whole lot earlier for White. A player with huge potential. judging by his form for the reserves. But Spurs are hardly a club renowned for having a faith in youth.
Especially, under Antonio Conte. So, it was quite pleasant – and surprising – to see Bryan Gil start again. White and Sarr came off the bench. It is a reminder to Conte he has a couple of young midfielders in the Spurs squad raring to go.
Pierluigi Gollini was among those to praise White – despite the goalkeeper leaving Spurs after his loan, in the summer. Lucas Moura told White he was very happy for him, while Ivan Perisic and Gil congratulated their young teammate.
