The 17-year old is one of English football’s brightest young talents.
Tottenham’s Marcus Edwards in action against Alex Sandro of Juventus
Spurs starlet Marcus Edwards caught the eye once again as the Lilywhites overcame Reading today in a Premier League 2 clash.
The 17-year old showcased all the qualities that have led to talk of a first-team breakthrough this season, with a delightful brace as Spurs ran out 4-1 winners.
He opened the scoring in typical fashion as he outmaneuvered his marker on the edge of the box before firing crisply into the top corner. He made it two early on in the second half with another sublime strike, this time cutting in from the right flank and slamming the ball home with his left foot.
Will Miller and Shayon Harrison were the other scorers as Tottenham enjoyed a comfortable afternoon, but Edwards’ performance will no doubt have more people debating whether it’s time for senior involvement.
The talented attacker travelled with the first-team for their pre-season trip to Australia and provided glimpses of his quality in two cameo appearances.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino before the match
He wasn’t part of the match day squad for Tottenham’s first two Premier League fixtures but with Mauricio Pochettino currently lacking an abundance of alternatives in attack, he could well make the step up soon.
