The Arsenal star impressed for his loan club in Warren Cummings testimonial.
Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere applauds fans after their game against Watford
Arsenal’s 24-year-old midfielder made his debut for Bournemouth on Saturday as the Cherries took on Serie A giants AC Milan at the Vitality Stadium, in former defender Warren Cummings’ testimonial.
With pictures coming from the club’s Twitter account, it was another moment for Bournemouth fans to pinch themselves that they have a player of the England international’s quality on their books for at least one season, and they will be hoping Wilshere makes his competitive debut in the club’s next league game, against West Bromwich Albion on September 10 – also set to be at home.
For Gunners supporters, they will have to temporarily get used to seeing their homegrown hero in an unfamiliar strip, secure in the knowledge that the loan spell should be a huge positive for all parties involved.
The ideal is that Wilshere’s time with the Cherries brings the squad heightened exposure and an even more impressive league performance than they managed during their first ever Premier League season, while also getting a full season of football and form under his belt ahead of a return to the Gunners midfield next season.
Against Milan, Wilshere impressed with his trademark technically strong and combative style wearing the number 32 that he will be sporting on the south coast, lining up just behind close friend Benik Afobe who was playing up front.
Playing the first 45 minutes, he looked good coming forward on a number of occasions for his new club before the two teams headed in for the break at 0-0.
Bournemouth ended up losing 2-1 to the European giants, with ex Liverpool man Suso opening the scoring for the Italians, summer signing Lys Mousset equalising, and then M’Baye Niang netting the winner.
But it was clear that Wilshere’s impact at the Cherries is only just getting started.
