Southampton youngster Oludela Olomola made his debut in a home clash with Sunderland in the EFL Cup but there’s more concern for Jay Rodriguez who was forced off injured after a clash of heads.
Claude Puel’s men progressed to the EFL Cup Quarter-Finals by defeating Premier League strugglers Sunderland on Wednesday evening, Sofiane Boufal scored the winning goal.
Olomola joined Southampton in the summer of 2014 after failing to make the cut at Arsenal and despite appearing on the bench a few times, he has failed to cross the white line for the first team until now.

The talented young striker has been in fine form for the Saints’ Under-23 side with four goals in six games to-date in the ‘Premier League 2’, he has also netted once in two games in the newly-formed EFL Trophy.
Jay Rodriguez continues to battle with injury and he was again forced off during the game and has every Saints’ fan fearing the worst with his injury troubled past. However, the injury looks to be little more than a cut to the head.
The English international has made six appearances so far this season with two goals, one in the Premier League and the other in the Europa League.
His injury does produce an opportunity for a youngster, however with English striker Olufel Olomola making his debut at the age of 19.
