Leeds United have confirmed on their official Instagram page that Kemar Roofe has returned to first-team training just days before Saturday’s clash against Sunderland at Elland Road.

The 25-year-old has missed Leeds’ last seven games through a muscle injury, after first picking up the problem in the 55th minute of the Whites’ 2-2 draw against Derby County back in February.

Paul Heckingbottom, Manager of Leeds United looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Leeds United at Craven Cottage on April 3, 2018 in London, England.

However, the former Oxford United ace has returned to training and could be available for selection ahead of Saturday’s clash against relegation-threatened Sunderland with pressure increasing on Paul Heckingbottom.

Leeds posted a picture of the versatile attacker in training, which will come as a huge boost to the former Barnsley manager as question marks surround the quality of both Caleb Ekuban and Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

Ekuban opened his account for Leeds on the weekend but missed a multitude of chances, while Lasogga is prevented from developing any sort of consistency as he was benched on Tuesday night against Fulham.

Despite being played out wide for many of his appearances this season, Roofe is the Whites’ top scorer with 12 goals in 33 games this season and he gives Heckingbottom another option up front.

Leeds remain mathematically in with a chance of achieving a place in the Championship’s top six, but with 10 points separating them from sixth place, it looks as though even a win against Sunderland will be too late.
