If Manchester United was a car, it may look a little something like this.

If the current crop of Manchester United stars were summarised in car form, the attack would be a Ferrari while the defence would be something far less glamorous.

United’s attack showcased all of its flamboyant brilliant in the game against Leicester City yesterday but the defence fell to pieces, which would leave Louis van Gaal with a fair few things to sort out on the MOT.

The team ranks well in terms of goals, which suggests that if they can get their defence sorted out, they’ll have a better chance of seeing out games unlike they did yesterday.

That’s further supported by the fact they are competitive against rivals around them in terms of the number of scoring attempts they’ve had this season; the more attempts a team has, the more likely they are to score.

In terms of possession, only Arsenal have managed to keep the ball more effectively this season. Again, that suggests United have a good chance of being able to break teams down in tight matches, if they can remove the possibility of conceding.

Defensively it’s a different story with the side behind key rivals in terms of the number of tackles the team is making. Tackles help to break up the play but it’s an area United could do better in.

United are also in the top five for goals conceded so far this season although it’s important to point out that five of the goals conceded came in the match yesterday, with the team down to ten men for a portion of the match.

Up front everything is looking good as that goal from Angel Di Maria suggests but at the back, LvG should be working furiously to plug the gaps.
