Ever since Adidas and Manchester United announced they were launching a competition for fans to design the club’s next kit, would-be designers have been hard at work.

The opportunity is to create a kit to be worn as the club’s third strip in the 2017/18, and this one below may be the best one yet.

Designed by Patrick Ward, the kit is a poignant tribute to the Busby Babes who lost their lives in the tragic 1958 Munich air disaster.

While the inevitable sponsor’s logo’s somewhat impinge on the design, the shirt is subtle yet bold at the same time, and would be an ideal way to pay tribute to the great players of yesteryear who were denied the chance to fulfil their potential.

You can create your own design at Adidas’ Creator Studio, and fan votes will help decide the eventual winner by creating a shortlist, and the players themselves will have the final vote.

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Juventus are all running similar competitions ahead of next season.
