Sunderland are struggling to score goals in the absence of Lewis Grabban, and their options are limited on deadline day.

Atdhe Nuhiu is a deadline day target for Sunderland, according to the Sheffield Star.

Chris Coleman is desperate to bring a new striker into the Stadium of Light as he has been left with only the teenage pairing of Joel Asoro and Josh Maja following the departures of Lewis Grabban and James Vaughan.

And it looks like Sheffield Wednesday and Kosovo forward Nuhiu could be his man.

The 28-year-old would certainly offer a physicality currently missing in that youthful Sunderland front line, having largely served as a impact substitute target man at Hillsborough.

But the big worry for Black Cats fans will surely be Nuhiu’s lack of pedigree in front of goal.

He will certainly worry defences, but goalkeepers might not be so concerned. Now in his fifth season at Wednesday, Nuhiu has scored a total of just 20 Championship goals – only one of them coming in the last two campaigns.

Sunderland are admittedly fishing in a very shallow pool, yet surely Coleman must have identified someone who can offer a greater goal threat than Nuhiu.

The forward, who has at least netted three in his last two FA Cup games, could well have been a decent option alongside another new attacking signing, but his sole presence is unlikely to stave off relegation.
