West Ham United eased their relegation concerns with an emphatic and hugely impressive victory.
West Ham may not be safe just yet and may have a tricky run of fixtures ahead, but David Moyes’ men have every right to feel elated this weekend after they eased their relegation concerns with a stunning victory over Southampton.
After two 4-1 defeats and another heavy loss looking set to be on the cards, the fans could have certainly been forgiven for letting their frustrations boil over during their last home game – the 3-0 defeat to Burnley – though it must be mentioned that a minority of the fans crossed the line.
And with West Ham one of those sides who seem to have had little problem hitting the self-destruct button in the past, the Irons fans would have been forgiven for arriving for Saturday’s game feeling extremely pessimistic.
However, the Irons were sensational against the team one place and two points below them in the Premier League table, scoring three times in the first-half to ensure that they moved themselves five points clear of the bottom three.
A lot of questions have been asked of the West Ham squad since the defeat to Burnley before the international break, but one thing that undoubtedly could not be questioned on the weekend was the togetherness.
And that togetherness was perhaps best symbolised by one image which showed the side start to come together after one of Arnautovic’s goals.
Another image that perhaps also summed up the game nicely was one of Moyes looking incredibly relieved. It is not difficult to imagine that his facial expression was one that was seen thousands of times amongst the fans across the stadium during the victory.
