Wayne Rooney scored his 250th Manchester United goal during the draw with Stoke City.
Wayne Rooney added yet another accolade to his incredible CV as his stoppage-time free-kick during Manchester United’s clash with Stoke City on Saturday saw him become United’s all-time leading goalscorer.
Rooney – who is also England’s all-time leading scorer – moved alongside Sir Bobby Charlton by scoring for the Red Devils for the 249th time during their FA Cup victory over Reading earlier in the month.
But he had to wait until the dying minutes of the clash at the Bet365 Stadium to bag the record-breaking 250th goal for the club. And fittingly, he broke the record with a world class strike that Potters keeper Lee Grant stood no chance of preventing from hitting the back of the net.
Despite having the opportunity to savour such a historic moment, Rooney highlighted his professionalism by simply concentrating on trying to get the ball back as quickly as possible to give them the best chance of finding a winner.
That winner did not come. But if it had, it is unlikely that it would have taken the headlines away from the 31-year-old, who undoubtedly deserves to be considered as one of the Premier League’s greatest, as well as a Manchester United legend.
