The Tottenham Hotspur youngster could not help his side beat Apoel Nicosia’s young guns in the UEFA Youth League.

With Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino struggling for numbers ahead of his side’s Champions League clash against Apoel Nicosia this week, some fans were hopeful of finally seeing Marcus Edwards given a place in the match day squad.
Alas it was not to be, with Tottenham’s UEFA Youth League line-up against the same opponents ruling out a second senior appearance for the 18-year-old.

Instead, Pochettino opted to put Tashan Oakley-Boothe and Anthony Georgiou on the bench in Cyprus; the latter coming on for the last six minutes with Tottenham coasting after a Harry Kane hat-trick.
There is no doubting Georgiou’s talent, but just a few short months ago it would have been inconceivable to think that Edwards would miss out in favour of him and Oakley-Boothe.
Tottenham’s pre-season tour has helped the latter pair stake their own claims, while Edwards continues to make do with under-19 and under-23 football.

On Tuesday afternoon he was unable to inspire Tottenham’s next generation to a victory against an Apoel side that had lost 10-0 to Real Madrid earlier this month.
Instead it was the Cypriot youngsters who ran out 1-0 winners, ensuring it was a bad day all round for Edwards.
His time will come, but one wonders why he is yet to build on his 15-minute outing against Gillingham in last season’s EFL Cup.
