Tottenham Hotspur’s next generation played their French counterparts this week.
Tottenham Hotspur’s under-19s lost 3-2 to their Monaco counterparts on Tuesday afternoon, with a hat-trick from the French club’s exciting young striker Irvin Cardona enough to seal the victory in the UEFA Youth League.
Among the Tottenham teenagers on show was Marcus Edwards, who won a second-half penalty that was converted by Shayon Harrison.
That followed Samuel Shashoua’s earlier strike but it was not enough to give Tottenham’s young guns their first three points of the competition.
Tottenham also gave starts to Anton Walkes and Kyle Walker-Peters, who are both expected to ultimately break into the first-team, while 16-year-old Tashan Oakley-Boothe started after making his debut for the under-21s last week.
Tottenham’s senior players face off against Monaco’s stars this evening and they will be hoping for a more positive result at Wembley. However this will be another vital learning curve for those teenagers hoping to one day break through for the North London club.
