Tottenham Hotspur beat Aston Villa 2-0 on Sunday night, with Jose Mourinho benefiting from making a number of changes.

Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon came into the side, whilst Carlos Vinicius was given a chance o join Harry Kane in the Tottenham attack.

Matt Doherty and Harry Winks were curiously left out the squad entirely, whilst Toby Alderweireld and Serge Aurier weren’t included.

The official line on the duo was that they were out through illness, with Tanganga and Rodon able to come in to replace them in defence.

The more experienced duo may now struggle to get back into the side after Tanganga and Rodon impressed at Villa Park, but they are at least available again.

Mere hours after Tottenham’s win, both Alderweireld and Aurier headed off on international duty with Belgium and Ivory Coast respectively.

Both players took to Instagram to post photos of them joining up with their countries, both seemingly recovering quickly from their illnesses.

That’s a boost for Spurs even if it may annoy some that they’re available for their countries after missing Sunday’s game, but it’s much better than there being any longer-term complications.
