Crystal Palace moved another step closer to sealing their Premier League status with a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
With five wins in their previous seven games, The Eagles travelled to Merseyside in great form, but fell behind when Philippe Coutinho whipped a superb long-range free kick into the corner of the net.
Sam Allardyce’s men did hit back before half time though, as Yohan Cabaye crossed for Christian Benteke to score from close range, inevitably finding the net on his first return to Anfield.
Liverpool pressed for a win to solidify their place in the Champions League places, but their porous defence was breached again when Benteke added a second, heading home from close range after meeting a corner.

Palace stood strong to claim all three points, taking them up to 12th in the Premier League table, seven points clear of the drop zone.
Many could have predicted Benteke’s two-goal return to Anfield given his record for Aston Villa before joining the Reds in 2015, but his celebration after the first goal is what has sparked major debate.

Benteke ran over to the Crystal Palace bench and celebrated with a handshake with Palace defender Mamadou Sakho, who was ineligible for the game given that he is currently on loan from Liverpool.
Liverpool fans have been taking to Twitter since the controversial incident to blast Sakho, suggesting that he shouldn’t be celebrating so flagrantly against his parent club, stating that the Frenchman has no future at Anfield as a result.
