Allan McGregor was the star for Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers on Thursday night.
Not for the first time this season, Allan McGregor came to Rangers’ aid.
Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side had to play 45 minutes of last night’s Europa League encounter against Villarreal at Ibrox with 10 men following Daniel Candeias’s red card.
And yet, the Gers emerged from the contest with a point after what was a very hard-fought 0-0 draw with the Spanish outfit.
The main reason why the Spaniards were denied time and again was the Rangers goalkeeper, who made a string of superb saves to save his team.
The 36-year-old has arguably been the Gers’ best player this season and the look that Gerrard gave him at full time illustrates that the Blues manager adores his keeper.
Consequence of McGregor’s heroics, Rangers still have a shot at reaching the last 32 of the competition, but things could hardly be tighter in Group G.
Villarreal and Rapid Wien sit top on seven points, one ahead of the third-placed Gers and two clear of Spartak Moscow in fourth.
It’ll be a fantastic last gameweek on December 13, with Gerrard’s troops visiting Vienna and Villarreal hosting the Russians.
If McGregor plays like he did last night, Rangers have an excellent chance of progressing.
