Aston Villa have taken defender Chris Samba on trial.

Aston Villa have today released the first photos of trialist Chris Samba in action with the squad – but pundit Stan Collymore doesn’t seem impressed.
Villa are currently enduring a torrid run of form, as they’ve lost seven of their last eight Championship games, picking up just one point since the turn of the year.
Manager Steve Bruce is under increasing pressure following Monday’s 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United, and with Villa sitting just six points clear of the relegation zone, he’s attempting to aid his back line.
Defender Chris Samba joined Villa on trial earlier this week, with the free agent looking for a new club having been released by Panathinaikos in January.
The Congolese centre back, who stands at a giant 6ft 4in tall, was once one of the top defenders in the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers, racking up more than 150 top flight appearances for the club.
More recently, Samba has been with Anzhi Makhachkala twice, either side of a move to QPR, as well as Dynamo Moscow and Panathinaikos, who released Samba in January.
Now working to win a contract with Villa, Samba was in training today, and Villa’s official Twitter account posted the following photos of the defender in action.
Samba could be an asset if fully fit, but former Villa striker, boyhood fan and current pundit Stan Collymore has taken to Twitter to wonder what the club are doing by taking a 32-year-old, injury-prone defender on trial.
