Players from Glasgow Rangers, Celtic, Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham United all featured in Scotland’s draw with Canada.
Scotland go into their World Cup qualifier with Slovenia this weekend off the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw with Canada at Easter Road, despite players from the likes of Rangers, Celtic, Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham all featuring for Gordon Strachan’s side.
It was the away side that broke the deadlock when Falkirk full-back Fraser Aird – formerly of Rangers – took advantage of some sloppy defending to find the back of the net with a smart finish.
Norwich City’s Steven Naismith was the man to score Scotland’s equaliser after Tom Cairney of Fulham – who was making his debut for the national team – sliced his shot towards the forward. His touch then sent the ball across the goal and, agonisingly for the Canadians, over the line.
Scotland tried to move things up a gear in the second-half with Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes and Leigh Griffiths of Celtic coming on to try and give the home side more fire power.
It did not work however. One of Scotland’s most creative players normally, Robert Snodgrass of West Ham, did not enjoy his best night, and Rhodes missed an absolutely glorious chance at the very end when the ball was whipped across the six-yard box.
Unsurprisingly, there was very little for the Scots to be optimistic about, and that is reflected in some of the images taken from the game…
