West Ham United loanee Sam Byram has not played for Nottingham Forest since August, but returned for their under-23 side on Monday.
There was some encouraging news to emerge from Nottingham Forest’s under-23 side’s 2-2 draw with Colchester United on Monday as West Ham loanee Sam Byram made his return to action in front of Martin O’Neill.
Byram would have been hoping to rediscover his best form when he left the Hammers to move to the City Ground for the campaign back in the summer. But he was only able to make three appearances for Forest before suffering a knee injury in August that Nottinghamshire Live reports raised doubts about whether he would play for the club again before returning to the London Stadium.
However, it appears that there is a good chance that he could still have a part to play this season as he played 60 minutes in Monday’s 2-2 draw.
The Hammers loanee grew into the game and would have certainly left O’Neill with reason for encouragement as Forest go into the final 10 games of the Championship season looking to sneak into the play-offs.
Following their 3-0 win against Hull City at the weekend, the first-team are just two points off their bitter rivals Derby County, who occupy that final top six spot. And there would surely be nothing that Forest fans would love more than to secure promotion with the Rams falling short at some stage along the way.
Byram however, will not be thinking that far ahead as it would be a surprise if his schedule included anything other than under-23 games for the time-being. But he will be delighted that he has taken another major step towards making that return.
