Everton opened the Sam Allardyce era with a 2-0 home win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.
The Toffees moved to appoint Allardyce on Thursday after he sat in the stands for the 4-0 home win over West Ham United, with Everton finally landing Ronald Koeman’s replacement.
After that morale-boosting performance against West Ham, Everton needed to follow that up against Huddersfield – and they did just that as Allardyce made his Goodison Park bow.
Following a close first half, Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring, bagging a goal for the second time in his last three games, placing a superb strike into the corner of the net from just inside the box.
Everton made it 2-0 later in the second half as Dominic Calvert-Lewin ran clear from Wayne Rooney’s pass to seal the win and hand Allardyce all three points.
