Glasgow Rangers struck a major blow in the Scottish Premiership title race with a stunning victory at Ibrox.
Rangers stormed to their first league Old Firm victory since 2012 on Saturday as Steven Gerrard’s side produced a stunning performance to beat their bitter rivals 1-0 at Ibrox.
To anyone who missed the game, the scoreline may hint that the contest was a cagey one which saw Rangers score in the first-half and look to frustrate Brendan Rodgers’ men from then on.
However, the Gers were superb. They dominated the game from the first whistle, producing a number of fine, robust challenges, and putting together some fantastic moves going forward.
Ryan Jack broke the deadlock after some stunning work from Ryan Kent down Rangers’ left-wing. And Celtic rarely looked like producing the moment of quality that they needed to get back into the game. Rangers did not let them.
Understandably, the scenes after the game seemed to be emotional. Many of Gerrard’s squad were playing in their first Ibrox Old Firm game, but they were clearly aware of how important a victory was to the fans and to the club.
All of the players could not hide their delight, with Graham Dorrans joining the celebrations. The midfielder has not played since September, but the joy on his face outlined how special the win was.
There was also a class moment from Allan McGregor as he embraced Craig Gordon after the full-time whistle – in the background of one of the images showing Joe Worrall celebrating. The Celtic stopper arguably prevented the scoreline from becoming an embarrassing one for the champions, and McGregor appears to be consoling his international teammate.
Here are some of the defining images once the full-time whistle blew…
